So… you are a guest on NightHacking Radio and I sent you here to capture a high quality stream. You might be wondering why I don’t just use the audio from Skype or Hangout, and that is because I am a snobby audiophile! The good news for you is that this translates to better quality audio for your published interview. Fortunately it is pretty easy to do, so let’s get to it!

First, you need the right software where right = open source, cross-platform, and easy. This would be audacity, so go get a copy and install it:

Once you have audacity up, check to make sure the right mic is selected here (the default is usually fine):

Then you should test your levels… do this by clicking the little microphone next to the meters, which will turn on the red bars:

As you talk, the bars will move. You want to get the peaks as close to -6db as you can without going over by adjusting the mic slider:

Once you have it good enough, click the red record button:

Now you are recording audio from your default microphone. You should see the waveform in the window move as you talk. When you are done recording, click the yellow stop button:

You can double check the recording by clicking play to listen to it. Then, go to File > Export… to save the clip and use the default WAV format:

Finally, upload the recording to me using the following form:
